Position: Summer Camp Coordinator

Reports To: Education Programs Manager

Schedule: This is a seasonal, non-exempt position. Hours are Monday-Friday, falling between 7:30am-6:00pm, depending on agreed-upon schedule. The position is scheduled to start Monday, May 1st and goes until Friday, August 25th, 2023. Applicants must be able to commit to the entire time duration.

Job Summary

We are looking for a responsible and enthusiastic individual, who is passionate about working with youth, to work closely with the Summer Camp Manager to assist in overseeing the Summer Camp program for children ages 6-14.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Assist in oversight of daily activities, general camp operations, and programs, to guarantee a quality camp experience for all participants.
  • Assist in oversight of daily activities, general camp operations, and programs, to guarantee a quality camp experience for all participants.
  • Track inventory, create purchase orders, and facilitate and oversee the creation of weekly camp supply bins.
    Assist with supervision, monitoring, and support of Summer Camp staff, including Camp Educators, Camp Educator Assistants, Camp Support Staff, and Volunteers. Assigning daily directions, tasks and expectations.
  • Oversee camper check-in, check-out, lunch, snack, and recess times.
  • Enforce behavior protocols, help children resolve conflicts appropriately, and intervene when children are having behavior issues.
  • Assist in organizing and implementing pre-camp staff training.
  • Assist in organizing and reserving field trips, guests, and transportation for camps.
  • Assist Summer Camp Manager in maintaining communication with families and addressing concerns in a timely manner.
  • Assure all paperwork is kept accurate, including, but not limited to rosters, transportation, attendance, health forms, etc.
  • Adhere to Discovery Worlds safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Additional duties as needed including, but not limited to: supervision of campers, daily upkeep of classrooms, etc.

  • Normal setting for this job is: Office/Classroom setting with daily outside supervision. Days consist of walking and standing for long periods of time.

Job Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum two years experience working in camp, youth programs, working with children, and/or a related field.
  • Proven leadership skills, comfortable overseeing a team of 20+ members.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Ability to implement team-building exercises and create a positive, fun, and welcoming camp environment.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks while in a fast-paced and potentially stressful environment.
  • Must demonstrate organizational skills and extreme care for details.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be extremely punctual, enthusiastic, creative, and a problem-solver.
  • Professional demeanor
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a capacity to discuss sensitive material with students and families.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of people and shows excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work for the entire summer camp season.
