The Challenge

Visit this life size re-creation of the first schooner built especially for the Great Lakes following the plans of a Manitowoc-based ship builder.

As Wisconsin's flagship and a flagship for the United Nations Environment Program, the USCG certified Sailing Vessel Denis Sullivan, is an educational sailing vessel connecting learners of all ages to the Great Lakes, oceans and our world of water through experiential learning and technology.

Each of our eight labs, studios, and workshops is specially designed to place you in a dynamic, professional environment. September Innovation Labs

Everyday Skulls | Biology Lab

Saturdays at 3pm - $4 members | $5 non-members

Examine animal skulls and discover the relationship between anatomy and adaptations.


Parachutes and Parafoils | General Science Lab

Saturdays at 1pm and Sundays at 1pm & 2pm | $4 members | $5 non-members

Learn about deceleration devices like parachutes and parafoils. Build a parafoil and experiment with different sizes and weights.

Dynamic Reuse | Prototype Lab

Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 3pm & 4pm. $4 members | $5 non-members

Take an unwanted material, process it, and then use it to produce a useful product. Learn about why recycling is essential and design your own creation!

Les Paul | Print Lab

Saturdays at 12pm. $4 members | $5 non-members

Create a Les Paul inspired screenprint during this introduction to the screenprinting process.

Films

The Shel and Marianne Lubar Innovation Theater in the Technology Building and the Digital Theater in the Aquatarium both feature 20’ x 16’ high definition projection screens.  Both theaters are ideal for accommodating groups of up to 144 visitors.

Video Production Studio

Video Production Studio

The Video Production Studio provides a fully equipped television studio where young people can hone their skills both in front of and behind the camera. Students learn preproduction, production and postproduction. This area provides an environment where young people can experiment in producing products for film, television and the web-based media. Participants will also work on projects for actual broadcast.

Audio Studio

The Audio Studio explores the world of sound and how to capture and utilize that sound for music, radio, television and the web. As they learn the tools and equipment used in the audio studio, visitors learn the science of sound and the valuable role it can play in strong educational materials.
